Rebuilding this bridge has dragged on for years since a school bus plunged into the flooded Enziu River in December 2021, killing 32 people. KeRRA awarded a ~KES 700 million contract in April 2022 against an original December 2022 completion target, but progress repeatedly stalled over logistical and materials-importation issues. In July 2026, President Ruto pledged a further KES 600 million and a completion target of September 2026 - not yet independently confirmed as delivered.
